MozFest House Amsterdam 2024

Taking place in June 2024, MozFest House Amsterdam was a regional invitation for individuals, partners, allies, and initiatives to showcase their work within their local environment and experiences. House wasn't just a date on the calendar – it was a vibrant convergence of minds, a celebration of creativity, and a catalyst for change in the digital world.

Highlights from the Main Stage

We are Data Keynote with Mona Chalabi

Mona Chalabi, journalist and keynote speaker is joined us on the Main Stage at MozFest House Amsterdam!

Her work has earned her a Pulitzer Prize, a fellowship at the British Science Association, an Emmy nomination, and recognition from the Royal Statistical Society. Her work is rooted in humanizing data and unveiling statistical research around social and economic justice issues including police violence, viral transmission, the cost of dying, and more.

In this keynote you will hear directly from Mona about the importance and urgency of distilling statistical data, and data in general, into humanized information to make visible social and economic injustice.

Arts & Experiences at MozFest House

  • Firefox's 20th Birthday Celebration

The Firefox product team ran a design sprint session on the future of the Web, hosted a coffee & chat with students from local universities, and showcased exciting new feature demos all in celebration of Firefox's 20th birthday.

  • MI: Mycelium Intelligence

Created by Jessica Jabr, this installation paralleled mycelium networks and AI, highlighting connectivity, adaptability, and collaboration. Amid ambient sounds, participants interacted with generative visuals on sinewave panels and myco-foam bricks, which showcased eco-sustainable building possibilities and served as both visual displays and audio insulators.

  • Trace: Navigating through digital and physical supply chains

Created by Anne Lee Steele, this installation explored the complexity of global supply chains through two types of maps: physical and digital. A tactile, auditory experience used a standing globe with electric paint to trigger sounds from different supply chain steps, such as mining, manufacturing, shipping, waste, and recycling, when touched.

  • Ethical Dilemma Cafe

At the Ethical Dilemma Cafe in the Tolhuis, not everything was as free as it seemed as we explored the dilemmas faced online every day. How much data would you give away in return for an ice pop in the Amsterdam sunshine?

Songs of the Living

Presented by Mozilla Festival and Together & Dedicated

Toshi Reagon created Songs of the Living as a way to center coming together, signing, and gathering with different creative expressions to find alignment with our living world. The musical experience draws inspiration from Octavia E. Butler’s “Parable of the Sower,” set in the year 2024. This transformative event highlighted the importance of creating spaces for solidarity, where individuals can come together and ideas can thrive.
